Regulatory Inspections

Diagnostic and inspection procedures help ensure the safety of people and equipment, and guarantee the compliance and performance of equipment and facilities.

Conducted during commissioning or on a periodic basis, these procedures aim to:

  • verify compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • evaluate performance using standardized methods.

They are based on two types of verification: visual inspection and testing, with the latter requiring measurements taken using appropriate instruments.

Electrical Safety of Installations

Electrical safety in residential, commercial, and industrial installations is essential to ensure the protection of people, equipment, and infrastructure. During commissioning, after modifications, or as part of preventive and regulatory maintenance, electrical inspections verify the following:

  • The continuity of protective conductors and equipotential bonding
  • The proper operation of protective devices and DDRs/RCDs
  • The effectiveness of the grounding system
  • The quality of electrical circuit insulation

Compliant with the requirements of international and national standards such as IEC 60364, the multifunction installation testers offered by Chauvin Arnoux allow all measurements, tests, and verifications necessary for compliance, diagnostics, and maintenance of low-voltage (LV) installations to be performed on-site:

  • Continuity
  • Insulation
  • Earth resistance
  • Loop impedance
  • Differential test
  • Polarity and phase sequence

Electrical Safety of Machines and Control Panels

Like electrical installations, machinery and electrical panels are subject to regulatory and standards-based requirements designed to ensure personal safety, equipment reliability, and installation compliance during commissioning and operation.

The qualification, commissioning, and periodic verification tests required by the EN 60204 and EN 61439 standards necessitate the performance of electrical measurements and tests:

  • Continuity of protective conductors
  • Insulation resistance
  • Dielectric tests
  • Safety tests
  • Verification of protective devices.

The machine testers offered by Chauvin Arnoux enable the performance of all these inspection, testing, and diagnostic operations on machines, control cabinets, and electrical panels. Rugged and suited for industrial applications, they combine the essential measurement functions for maintenance, compliance, and quality control operations.

Monitoring the Work Environment

The risks to which employees may be exposed in the workplace must be assessed, and measures must be put in place to reduce or eliminate them. Among physical risks, regulations—which vary in strictness from country to country—govern, in particular, air quality, lighting, noise, and exposure to electromagnetic fields.

  • Risk related to lighting: the illuminance level must be adapted to the nature and precision of the work to be performed, ranging from 200 lux for office work to 800 lux for certain demanding laboratory tasks.
  • Risk related to noise exposure: maximum levels are set in European Directive 2003/10/EC
  • Risks related to exposure to electromagnetic fields: the minimum health and safety requirements under European Directive 2013/35/EU, transposed into standards in member states

Thermal Assessment

To improve the energy performance of buildings, thermal imaging cameras are effective tools for detecting thermal insulation defects, air infiltration, and thermal bridges; they can also be used in conjunction with air permeability tests to identify uncontrolled air leaks through the building envelope.

They are easy to use and the results are straightforward to analyze, but a reliable interpretation of the images requires adherence to certain criteria. In Europe, the EN 13187 standard defines a method for the qualitative detection of thermal defects in the building envelope.
