Ground and Resistivity Tests

Earth measurement solutions enable the precise evaluation of an installation’s earth resistance, a key parameter for ensuring personal safety and service continuity. They ensure the system’s ability to effectively dissipate fault currents without a dangerous increase in the resulting voltage.

Depending on the site configuration, different testing methods are used:

  • Conventional stake method (3P/4P), recognized for its reliability in open environments
  • Selective, stake-free measurement, ideal for urban or industrial settings with space constraints
  • Earth clamp measurement, suitable for meshed networks and multiple parallel grounding points

These technologies enable rapid diagnosis, detailed analysis of grounding networks, and optimized maintenance of electrical infrastructure.

Isolation Checks

Insulation testing is a key tool for preventive maintenance and the diagnosis of electrical equipment. It helps detect signs of aging, contamination, or degradation in insulating materials, thereby reducing the risk of short circuits, electrical arcing, and fire.

The solutions offered include various test voltage ranges (up to 1 kV, 5 kV, 10 kV, and 15 kV), suitable for low-, medium-, and high-voltage applications. They enable the following:

  • Standard insulation measurements
  • Advanced tests (DAR, PI, ramp test, etc.)
  • Trend analysis for condition-based maintenance

These features ensure a reliable assessment of the dielectric condition of electrical installations.

Inspections Specific to Transmission and Distribution Facilities

Chauvin Arnoux offers a range of devices designed for testing, measuring, and diagnosing electrical power transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The range includes, in particular:

  • Ground testers and tellurometers for transmission tower networks and grounding systems
  • Micro-ohmmeters for measuring very low contact resistances
  • Ratio meters for testing and diagnosing power transformers

Designed for HV/LV applications and the maintenance of electrical networks, these instruments combine precision, durability, and compliance with the energy sector’s requirements.

Installation Checks

To meet the testing, verification, and maintenance needs of electrical installations, Chauvin Arnoux offers a range of dual-function and multifunction installation testers that enable users to perform, with a single device, all the electrical measurements and tests required by international and national standards such as IEC 60364-6, NF C 15-100, VDE 0100, and others.

These instruments combine the essential functions for testing and diagnosing low-voltage (LV) installations—continuity, insulation resistance, loop impedance, DDR test, ground resistance, polarity, and phase sequence—to ensure the compliance, safety, and reliability of electrical installations.

Temperature Controls

Since abnormal overheating of an electrical device is an indicator of potential problems within a system, using a thermal imaging camera allows for a preliminary diagnosis to be made remotely and safely by checking:

  • that cable connections are secure,
  • that there is no overheating at the terminals…

The thermal image shows different temperature zones, allowing for quick and easy detection of temperature variations. Once the anomaly is located, repairs can be made more quickly and risks are minimized.
