The BRV1 electrode is available in two versions, depending on the type of glass used: either A-glass or H-glass. The difference between these two types of glass is the quality of the glass. Glass A is used for measurements in highly alkaline environments and its measurement range extends from 0 to 14, whereas glass H is a universal glass that allows accurate measurements down to pH 12. Glass is the element that is sensitive to oxonium ions (H3O+(aq)) when the electrode is immersed in an aqueous solution, because there is a potential difference on either side of the glass membrane due to the different exchanges of ions between the membrane and the solution.
